I’m a CPA, Yoga Instructor, Sunday school teacher of Vedanta and mother of two amazing children in Houston, Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with bachelors and masters degrees in Accounting, but then decided to follow my true passion. My passion to help people overcome struggle and attain personal fulfillment and serenity in their lives.
My journey with yoga and meditation began 9 years ago, shortly after seeing my mother suffer through a series of undiagnosed illnesses and then with her untimely demise. This was the first time I had to accept the unforeseen and uncontrollable that happens in our lives and this is where my spirituality and mediation carried me though such a loss, especially as an only child. Of course life continued to happen and my two children were born and I had a widower father to take care of, along with a household to run. But my father and I quickly picked up the pieces to our lives and we carried on. Until three and half years ago when he was diagnosed with final stage of stomach cancer.
Stress, grief and devastation of what was to come of seeing my other parent dyeing, I developed rheumatoid arthritis(RA) at the young age of 40. I knew I had a lot coming and needed to take care of myself to get though it and that’s when I discovered Yoga. I began to practice Hatha yoga daily at a local Vyasa center and I got hooked. For the first time in my life, I felt better about my body which was completely in sync with mind. My RA factor reduced on its own, I became more toned and flexible with better endurance and flexibility. My body became more fit and my mind slowed down to a level that helped me reach better clarity of thought and focus on what I needed to do to take care of myself, my family and help get my father through his cancer.
That is when I began my quest to help others realize the benefits of yoga like I did. According to Patanjali, Yoga is a conscious process of gaining mastery over the mind. But the benefits of yoga, I discovered, were a part of an all-round personality development at the muscular level, breathing (pranic) level, mental level, emotional level and intellectual level with spiritual growth. This is all designed to bring harmony to oneself to meet the challenges of the modern technological era which often brings with it such a fast paced life.
I successfully completed the Yoga Instructor’s Certification consisting of Asanas, Pranayama, Meditation, Kriyas, Chanting, Yoga Philosophy, Anatomy & Physiology, Teaching Methodology & Practices conducted by VYASA-USA in Houston. Further I have specialized yoga training in diabetes prevention and management, cyclic meditation for executive tension and I teach yoga classes specifically aimed at those with hypertension, diabetes, back pain or for prenatal health (pregnancy). I also teach children’s yoga to children ages 3 and up.
So in the true meaning of Yoga, whose verbal root is Yuj which means to join, lets join together on this beautiful journey with Yoga to bring harmony to not only ourselves but to the world around us.
